Last updated: 5 October 2026
Scope
This policy applies to the iOS app WordSnail, developed by Alpgiray Kelem. Questions: alpgiraykelem@gmail.com.
Data we collect
The app collects only what it needs to work:
- Account. With Sign in with Apple, the app-specific identifier Apple provides and, if you choose to share it, your email address. With email registration, your email address and an irreversible hash of your password. Passwords are never stored in plain text.
- Learning records. Which cards you saw, whether your answers were correct, how long you took, when each word is due for review, your streak, favourites, learning score, goal and badges.
- Preferences. Your native language, level, daily goal, reminder times and time zone.
- In-app rewards. Chips you earn and spend, and the themed decks and snail outfits you unlock.
- Notification token. If you allow notifications, a device token so we can tell you when you earn a badge.
- Purchases. The transaction identifier Apple issues and the expiry date of your Premium access.
Data we do not collect
No location, contacts, photos, health data or advertising identifier. The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
How data is used
Only to run the app: choosing which card to show and when, showing your progress and badges, sending the notifications you allowed, and verifying Premium access. Your data is never used for advertising, sold or rented.
Hosting and sharing
Data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Neon; the app server runs on Hetzner in Germany. The app talks to Apple for Sign in with Apple, purchases and push notifications. We do not share your data with anyone else, except where the law requires it. Payment details are handled by Apple and never reach us.
Retention and deletion
Your data is kept while your account exists. In the app, Profile → Delete account permanently deletes your account and all of its data immediately. You can also ask by writing to alpgiraykelem@gmail.com.
Notifications
Daily reminders are scheduled on your device. Badge notifications are sent through Apple Push Notification service. You can turn notifications off in iOS Settings at any time.

wordsnail.com uses Google Analytics to count visits (pages viewed, country, device type) only if you accept it in the cookie banner; see the Cookie Policy. It is not connected to the app or your account. Turkish residents: see the KVKK notice.
